Tofta skjutfält, Military training facility in Gotland, Sweden
This 2,700-hectare military training ground features pine forests, sandy terrain, and specialized zones for artillery, tank, and infantry exercises.
The Swedish Armed Forces began acquiring the land in 1898, initially purchasing it for the Gotland Artillery Regiment in 1899 with continuous expansions until the 1990s.
The training area represents a central element of Swedish military preparedness, reflecting the nation's commitment to territorial defense on the strategic island of Gotland.
Access to the facility requires authorization, and training schedules are published regularly to inform local residents about ongoing military activities.
The facility received a 1.6 billion kronor investment in 2015 for modernization, including the construction of barracks for 240 personnel and specialized training installations.
