Tofta skjutfält

Tofta skjutfält is a military training ground in Gotland spanning roughly 2,700 hectares with pine forests, sandy soil, and specialized zones for artillery, tank, and infantry exercises. The terrain is divided into areas that support different types of military training activities.

The Swedish Armed Forces began acquiring land here in 1898 and purchased it initially for the Gotland Artillery Regiment in 1899. The facility continued to expand with additional land through the 1990s.

This place holds significance for Swedish defense readiness and reflects how the nation prioritizes security on this strategic island. The military presence shapes local daily rhythms and how residents view their surroundings.
