Küselska huset, Baroque building at Skeppsbron 40 in Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden
Küselska huset is a baroque residential building at Skeppsbron 40 in Gamla Stan featuring Roman baroque architecture with vertical pilasters and a light brown sandstone base about 2 meters (6.5 feet) high. The structure houses several organizations today including a hostel, law offices, and an employer association.
The wealthy merchant Roland Eliaeson commissioned architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger to design this residence in 1701, a time when Eliaeson was among Stockholm's richest citizens. The building has remained an important example of baroque architecture in the old town since then.
The interior contains preserved baroque rooms decorated with landscape paintings on the walls that reflect the tastes of wealthy Stockholm residents in the 1700s. These spaces show how the city's elite lived during that era.
The building is located in Gamla Stan, Stockholm's historic center, and is easy to spot from the street. Visitors should know that access to the interior baroque rooms is not always open to the public and depends on the current occupants.
From 1992 to 2002, the building served as the filming location for the Dahlén family headquarters in the Swedish television series Rederiet. This role made the house recognizable to viewers of the popular show.
