Längbro Church, Church of Sweden building in Örebro, Sweden
Längbro Church is a red brick building constructed in 1901 in Örebro and stands near a wooded hill. The interior features a high ceiling painted blue with green details in a coffered pattern, while the chancel holds three circular paintings depicting Christ, Maria, and John the Baptist.
The church was built in 1901 by architect Magnus Dahlander, a prominent builder from Säter who also served as Örebro's city architect. Its interior underwent partial renovations in the late 1960s and 1981-1982, when artist Sven-Bertil Svensson created his Byzantine-inspired artworks.
The church's name, Längbro, refers to a long bridge and connects to the area's past. Today it serves as a gathering place where the community marks important moments like baptisms, weddings, and funerals while keeping traditions alive.
The building is easily accessible with no stairs at the main entrance and accessible restrooms nearby. Visitors can park in the nearby lot and explore the cemetery, which spreads under tall pine trees and feels like a forest.
A window on the west side shows Saint Cecilia, the patron of church music, crafted in Munich in 1954 and added in 1958. The interior artworks were created by Sven-Bertil Svensson inspired by Byzantine art, using static images with clear forms and symbols.
