Tegnértornet, Bauwerk in Schweden
Tegnértornet is a 27-meter-tall structure near Gränna that rises above the forest floor to a viewing platform reached by an interior spiral staircase of 144 steps. The platform sits at 351 meters above sea level and allows views across multiple regions of southern Sweden.
The tower was built in 1971 by Torsten Tegnér, a sports enthusiast and magazine editor, and officially opened on September 1, 1973. It grew from a local initiative to create a vantage point for viewing the landscape near Lake Vättern.
The name Skogstornet refers to the forest setting where the tower stands. It serves as a gathering spot for locals who value outdoor activities and moments spent looking out over the surrounding land.
The tower is open and free to visit, with parking available at the forest edge. The trail to reach it is about 1.3 kilometers long, steep, and winds through dense forest, so visitors should wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for a challenging walk.
The spiral staircase of 144 steps sways and creaks as you climb, creating a sense of adventure and thrill. Seating areas and a shelter near the top platform let visitors pause and take in both the views and the experience of being in this forest landmark.
