Växjö Public Library, Public library in Växjö, Sweden
Växjö Public Library combines two distinct structures: a square building from 1965 and a modern round extension from 2003. The two connected sections create a versatile space for physical books, digital media, and different user needs.
The original square building was constructed in 1965 based on architect Erik Uluots' designs, blending classical and modernist elements. The round extension was added in 2003 following an international competition to expand the facility.
The library functions as a community gathering place where locals regularly attend readings, exhibitions, and workshops. It serves as a cultural hub that brings people together to share knowledge and explore new interests.
The library is located at Västra Esplanaden 7 with nearby parking and good public transport access. Visitors can browse materials on-site and also access e-books and audiobooks through the Biblio app with a valid membership.
Danish architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen won an international design competition to create the distinctive round extension. Their solution combines bold geometric forms with functional design, making it stand out from the original section.
