Črna Prst, Mountain summit in Julian Alps, Slovenia
Črna Prst is a summit in the Julian Alps with an elevation of 1,844 meters (6,050 feet), named for a striking dark rock outcrop composed of shale near its peak. The mountain sits within a range of other peaks and offers views across the surrounding mountain terrain.
The ridge of Črna Prst served as a border between Italy and Yugoslavia from 1920 to 1947, marking a significant territorial division of that era. After 1947, the geopolitical situation shifted and the mountain was no longer a frontier zone.
Botanists Franz Xaver von Wulfen and Muzio Tommasini conducted extensive plant studies on Črna Prst, documenting its diverse flora in the late 18th century.
The mountain can be reached via hiking trails from the nearby mountain hut Dom Zorka Jelincica, which offers overnight stays and serves as a base for exploring the region. Visitors should prepare for alpine conditions and check weather before attempting the ascent.
The mountain harbors rare plant species of European conservation importance, including short-haired sandwort and yellow lady's slipper orchid. These species make the location botanically significant and a notable habitat within alpine flora.
