Municipality of Šempeter–Vrtojba

The Municipality of Šempeter-Vrtojba spans 15 square kilometers and consists of two main settlements: Šempeter pri Gorici and Vrtojba, near the Italian border.

Until 1947, both Šempeter and Vrtojba functioned as suburbs of Gorizia before becoming part of Yugoslavia following post-war territorial changes.

The municipality maintains continuous exchanges between Slovenian, Italian, and Friulian communities through various social and economic activities across the border.

The municipality houses numerous international companies specializing in logistics and transportation, benefiting from its location along the 5th Pan-European corridor.

The region contains Slovenia's largest vineyard, spanning 240 hectares across the Vrtojba-Bilje knolls, where Mediterranean climate supports extensive fruit cultivation.
