Brdo Castle near Kranj, Renaissance mansion in Predoslje, Slovenia

Brdo Castle near Kranj is a Renaissance mansion in the City Municipality of Kranj, Slovenia, set within a large estate that includes woods, ponds, and cultivated garden areas. Marked walking paths cross the grounds, allowing visitors to move through the different parts of the estate on foot.

The mansion was built around 1510, making it one of the earliest Renaissance structures in a region that was then under Habsburg rule. Over the following centuries, it changed hands several times and was gradually expanded and modified by its successive owners.

Inside the mansion, rooms display works by Slovenian artists alongside historic furniture from different periods. Walking through the interior gives a clear sense of how the building was used over the centuries.

Brdo is a government protocol estate, not a site with daily public opening; access is generally limited to organised visits and events. The compound lies west of Predoslje in the City Municipality of Kranj, and city bus lines 5 and 6 from Kranj pass nearby. The estate covers 496 hectares of park, forest, ponds and farmland.

On 16 June 2001, Brdo hosted the first official meeting between George W. Bush and Vladimir Putin. The estate had already served as a venue for talks among the six Yugoslav republic leaders in 1990, an attempt to prevent the federation's breakup.
