The castle changed ownership multiple times since 1270, from the Kunšperk family through noble dynasties until its nationalization after World War II.
The castle museum exhibits diverse collections including African art, Roman artifacts, and local artworks that represent different historical periods of the region.
Visitors can explore various sections of the castle, including exhibition spaces, a wedding hall, and outdoor areas that host regular cultural events.
The structure served as a military stronghold controlling routes from the Celje Basin to Carinthia, surviving an unsuccessful Turkish attack in the 17th century.
