Lake Vogrsko, Stausee in Slowenien
Lake Vogrsko is an artificial reservoir in Ajdovščina Municipality created by damming the Vogršček stream. It holds approximately 8.5 million cubic meters of water and serves both agricultural irrigation in the nearby Vipava valley and recreational purposes.
The reservoir was built in recent decades to improve water management in the region and supply communities with water. The dam, standing 37 meters high, is Slovenia's tallest earth dam and represents a key infrastructure achievement for the area.
The lake takes its name from the Vogršček stream that fed its creation as a reservoir. Today it serves as a gathering place for locals who use the open shoreline for walks and moments of reflection.
The lake is easily accessible near the town of Ajdovščina and offers walking, cycling, and fishing activities. The flat paths around the water are suitable for all ages with simple routes that require no special skills or equipment.
The dam has been monitored since 2014 with precision instruments that measure its vertical and horizontal movements every year to ensure structural stability. This continuous surveillance makes it one of the most closely observed engineering structures in the region.
