Podsreda Castle, Romanesque castle in Municipality of Kozje, Slovenia.
Podsreda is a Romanesque castle in the Municipality of Kozje, built in several stages over time. A medieval defensive tower from 1180 forms its core, with a southern wing added around 1220 and a chapel tower completed in 1260.
Around 1000, the land belonged to the Counts of Friesach-Zeltschach before Countess Hemma of Gurk took control. The Counts of Celje later acquired it and shaped its ongoing development.
The castle displays works by regional and international artists in its restored rooms and uses its medieval kitchen for changing exhibitions. Visitors can see how artistic expression and regional creativity thrive within these historic walls.
The castle welcomes visitors from March through November, Tuesday to Sunday between 10 am and 6 pm. The site is well-marked and rooms are accessible for self-guided exploration.
An information center in the castle cellars educates visitors about the protected natural areas of Kozjansko regional park. This connection shows how the site links to the surrounding landscape and its conservation.
