Chata pri Popradskom plese, Mountain lodge at Popradské pleso lake, Slovakia
Schronisko nad Popradzkim Stawem is a mountain lodge located on the northwest shore of Popradské pleso lake at 1508 meters elevation in the High Tatras. The building provides sleeping arrangements in different formats, ranging from larger shared dormitories to smaller private rooms with their own bathrooms.
The first shelter was built in 1879 by the Hungarian Carpathian Society and named after tourism activist Béla Majláth. The facility endured multiple fires throughout its history but was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded over time.
The facility evolved from a basic mountain shelter to a modern mountain hotel, reflecting changes in Slovak mountain tourism over the past century.
The lodge is accessible year-round, though it sees the most visitors during the hiking season from May through October. It is advisable to book in advance, as availability can be limited during peak travel times.
The building sits at a junction where multiple hiking trails converge, including the path to Rysy peak and the multi-day Tatra Magistrale route. This central location makes it a popular starting point for different trekking options in the area.
