Tępa, Mountain summit in High Tatras, Slovakia
Tupá is a summit in the High Tatras standing at 2,285 meters and rising among sharp rocky peaks in the Poprad District. The mountain is reached via several marked trails that depart from different starting points.
The mountain area around Tupá was settled as early as the 13th century, when the region was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. Early inhabitants established themselves in the valleys and made use of the mountain landscape for their livelihood.
The region around Tupá has long been a center of mountaineering tradition, where locals pass down knowledge about routes, weather, and rock formations. Visitors can sense this living culture on the trails, where hikers meet and share their experiences.
Multiple marked trails lead to the summit, with visitors able to start from various access points reachable by rail and the nearby airport. It is best to wear proper hiking boots and bring appropriate gear while being aware of rapidly changing mountain weather.
Tupá lies between Mengusovska Valley and Popradské Lake, both shaped by ancient glacial activity from the last ice age. This position makes the summit a vantage point from which both landscapes can be viewed simultaneously.
