Téryho chata, Mountain hut in Malá Studená dolina, Slovakia
Téryho chata is a mountain shelter located in Malá Studená dolina in the High Tatras at approximately 2015 meters in elevation. The hut accommodates about 24 guests across three rooms and includes communal washrooms and a dining area.
The shelter opened in 1899 after architect Gedeon Majunke designed it and construction started in 1889. It represents early infrastructure built for mountaineers in the High Tatras during the late 1800s.
The hut serves as a gathering place where mountaineers from across Europe meet and exchange stories of their climbs. Visitors can observe how the shelter functions as a hub for the climbing community, with shared meals and conversations about the mountains.
Marked trails lead to the hut from lower elevations, such as the route from Stary Smokovec through Hrebienok. Visitors should prepare for high altitude conditions and bring appropriate weatherproof clothing and gear for mountain walking.
The shelter sits near five mountain lakes known as Spišských Plies, nestled among the rocky formations of the High Tatras. It functions as the highest year-round mountain refuge in the region, remaining open even during winter months.
