Open-air museum of Ľubovňa

The open-air museum displays 25 wooden structures from the 19th and 20th centuries, including residential buildings, agricultural facilities, and traditional workshops scattered across the grounds. The buildings offer insight into everyday rural life as it was lived and worked in the region.

Founded in 1956, the museum was established to protect buildings relocated from the Spiš and Šariš regions. This effort preserved rural architectural traditions that might otherwise have been lost.

The wooden Greek Catholic church from Matysová built in 1833 stands at the heart of the museum and continues to host religious services following Eastern Rite traditions. Visitors can observe how these spiritual practices remain active and meaningful in the community.

The museum can be visited year-round, though opening hours vary by season and expand during warmer months. Wearing sturdy footwear is recommended since walking between buildings involves unpaved paths.

The water mill from Sulín still functions, demonstrating how traditional machinery actually worked in practice. A fully preserved blacksmith workshop lets visitors see the real tools and setup used for craftsmanship.
