Ľubovňa Castle

Ľubovňa Castle is a stone fortress sitting on a limestone cliff at roughly 711 meters elevation, built with Gothic features and later Renaissance modifications. The structure clearly shows these different architectural layers, with older sections at the base and later additions rising above.

The fortress was built with Gothic style and later served as a secure storage place for Poland's crown jewels during the Swedish invasion in the 17th century. This role made it an important location for both regional and international events of its time.

The castle houses collections about the noble families who made this place their home, displayed through period furniture, weapons, and historic carriages. These items tell the story of how wealthy residents lived here and the role the fortress played in regional aristocracy.

The castle is located in Stará Ľubovňa and welcomes visitors during weekday and weekend hours, though you should confirm times before your visit. Access to the fortress is best on foot, and comfortable shoes are recommended since the location sits on a hillside.

Inside the walls stand four separate courtyards that reveal different building periods and tell a story of how the site's architecture evolved over time. Each courtyard shows how construction methods and style shifted as new residents added their own touches.
