Bratislava Castle, Medieval castle on a hill above Danube River, Slovakia

Bratislava Castle is a fortress situated on a hilltop overlooking the Danube River in Slovakia's capital city with a rectangular layout and four corner towers. The structure has been restored and now houses exhibitions and serves as a venue for cultural events.

The castle first appeared in written records around 907 as a strategic stronghold at the border between rival powers. Over centuries it changed hands multiple times and was destroyed and rebuilt during various conflicts.

The castle functions as a national symbol reflecting Slovakia's past and draws visitors interested in historical life. Exhibitions inside show old furniture, artwork, and everyday objects that illustrate how people lived in earlier times.

Visitors can reach the castle via marked pathways from the Old Town center, with the main entrance on the eastern side. The approach is manageable on foot, and once there, you enjoy open views across the city and river below.

From 1552 to 1784 the Hungarian Crown Jewels were stored in a dedicated tower, making it one of the most important places in the realm. These precious objects represented the authority and legitimacy of rulers during that era.
