Hronsek Wooden Church

Hronsek Wooden Church is a timber structure in the District of Banská Bystrica built as a place of Protestant worship with a cross-shaped layout. The interior features a vaulted ceiling that resembles an inverted boat hull, and the building includes multiple entry points and windows that showcase its wooden construction techniques.

The church was constructed between 1725 and 1726 under strict building regulations that required wooden construction. This project emerged from the religious conditions of the period that shaped how Protestant communities built their places of worship.

The building reflects the work of craftspeople who merged German and Scandinavian construction methods with Slovak folk traditions. You can see carved decorations featuring lime leaves throughout the interior, a detail that connects the structure to local artistic customs.

The site welcomes visitors throughout the week and offers viewing opportunities with or without guided assistance. Entry is available from the main front of the structure, where you can access all sections of the interior.

The structure gained international recognition as one of Europe's few entirely wooden religious buildings that retained its original form. The internal arrangement with the boat-like vault created a distinctive acoustic space for worship services.
