Múzeum oravskej dediny

The Múzeum oravskej dediny is an open-air museum with more than 50 traditional buildings arranged in distinct zones representing different parts of the Orava region. Each structure reflects the local building styles and living conditions of its original settlement.

The museum opened in 1975 and began collecting authentic structures from surrounding villages in the region. It houses a Gothic wooden church dating from the 15th century, which stands as a key example of religious architecture from that era.

The buildings display tools and items from everyday life in the Orava region, showing how people once worked and lived together. Walking through them reveals the practical skills and traditions that shaped rural communities.

The museum covers a large outdoor area, so wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time for walking around the grounds. The paths are accessible and well-maintained, making it easy to explore at your own pace.

A stream called Studený potok flows through the museum grounds and powers traditional machines that are still in use. The water drives a functioning water mill, a sawmill, and a fulling mill, revealing how people once harnessed natural power.
