Bradlo, Mountain summit in Brezová pod Bradlom, Slovakia
Bradlo is a limestone summit rising to 543 meters in western Slovakia and the highest point of the Myjavská Upland region. The peak is crowned with memorial monuments including tall obelisk structures that dominate the landscape and are visible from considerable distances.
The memorial was built between 1927 and 1928 to honor Milan Rastislav Štefánik and his companions who died in an aircraft accident in 1919. This tragedy became a defining moment in the early years following Slovak independence.
The summit holds deep meaning as a place where locals and visitors gather to remember national heroes and values of independence. The monuments here are visited by many people during commemorative occasions, showing how the memory of these figures remains part of community life.
Access is via a paved road from Brezová pod Bradlom, with parking available near the site. The climb is moderate and visitors can choose from different routes depending on fitness level and available time.
The Štefánik Trail specifically leads to this summit and connects several locations tied to moments in Slovak history. The trail itself has become an important way for communities to preserve and share this memory with others.
