Široké sedlo, Mountain pass in Bielskie Tatras, Slovakia.
Szeroka Pass sits at 1825 meters and connects two mountain peaks through gentle meadows on the northern side. The route passes through multiple valleys and marks where different landscape zones of the range meet.
The first recorded crossing took place in 1765 when a monk from a local monastery traveled through. After that it became an established route for mountain hikers connecting both sides of the range.
The pass divides the landscape into distinct sections that feel different in terms of vegetation and views, and has served as a key crossing point for mountaineers over generations. The gentle meadows here show how the mountain changes character depending on which side you approach from.
The climb follows a red-marked trail from Zdziar through several valleys and demands good physical fitness due to elevation changes. The route is clearly marked throughout, but mountain hiking experience helps when tackling this demanding ascent.
This is the only accessible main crossing point along the mountain ridge with a marked hiking route. This exclusivity makes it essential for anyone wanting to traverse the entire mountain range.
