Levoča, Spiš Castle and the associated cultural monuments

The castle ruins stand high on a hill, while the town of Levoča retains its medieval layout with Gothic and Renaissance buildings within fortified walls.

Established in the 12th century, Spiš Castle served as the administrative center of Szepes county until a fire destroyed much of the structure in 1780.

The Church of St. James in Levoča contains the tallest Gothic wooden altar in the world, created by Master Paul during the late 15th century.

The castle remains open from April through October, with guided tours available in multiple languages and parking facilities at the base of the hill.

The site encompasses three distinct areas: Spiš Castle, the ecclesiastical town of Spišská Kapitula, and the medieval town of Levoča, forming a complete historical ensemble.
