Bodoň, Medieval castle ruins in Sigord area, Slovakia

Bodoň is a medieval castle ruin situated on a round rocky outcrop in eastern Slovakia at 855 meters elevation. The remains show traces of a circular tower structure and defensive walls that once protected the summit from its surrounding steep rock faces.

The fortress was built in the 13th century by nobleman Budun of Ploské and served as shelter during Tartar invasions before being destroyed and abandoned. Its fate reflects the difficult military conditions of that era in the region.

The fort was known by different names over time, with locals referring to it as Kerekku for its round rock base and Makovica for its poppy-shaped silhouette when viewed from distant valleys.

The site is accessible via a yellow-marked hiking trail starting from Zlatá Baňa and passing through forest paths. Sturdy footwear and adequate water are important for this trek, especially during wet weather conditions.

The ruin was locally known by several names that changed depending on the viewing angle from surrounding valleys. These different names show how people perceived and remembered the fortress differently based on where they approached it from.
