Šiprun, Mountain summit in Ružomberok District, Slovakia
Šiprun is a mountain peak in the Veľká Fatra range in central Slovakia, rising to about 1,460 meters. The terrain features thick forests on lower slopes that give way to open alpine meadows at higher elevations.
Šiprun formed millions of years ago as part of the geological development of the Veľká Fatra. Traces of early medieval settlements in the surrounding valleys show that people have inhabited this region for a long time.
The surrounding villages maintain local traditions and offer guided walks where visitors learn about regional plants and wildlife. The forested slopes and meadows are deeply connected to how communities have lived with and shaped this landscape over time.
Hikes to the summit start from Ružomberok and pass through various difficulty levels. The best time to climb is July through October, when weather is stable and trails remain easy to walk.
The summit is split into two adjacent parts, Predný Šiprúň and Zadný Šiprúň, which form a connected system. This double structure creates different viewpoints and walking routes that many visitors overlook.
