Galeria Gankowa, Cliff formation in High Tatras, Slovakia.
Galeria Gankowa is a rock wall on the northwestern side of Mały Ganek mountain in the High Tatras. It drops about 300 meters toward Dolina Ciężka valley and displays different stone formations with natural cracks and ridges.
The rock wall was first completely climbed in 1911 when mountaineers from three countries reached the summit together. This early success led to the development of multiple climbing routes of varying difficulty that are still used today.
The climbing routes at Galeria Gankowa include the Klasyczna route, graded IV/V, which serves as an introduction to the cliff's features.
Reaching the rock wall requires a long hike through mountainous terrain, so starting at dawn is wise. The route is demanding and requires climbing experience plus proper equipment to navigate safely.
The wall naturally divides into three sections, each offering different difficulty levels and appealing to various climbing styles. The central area is particularly popular because it provides a good balance between challenge and manageable climbing for experienced climbers.
