Veľký bok rises to 1,727 meters in the central Kráľovohoľské Tatry mountains, standing independently from the main ridge of the Low Tatras range.
A mountain chalet named Veľkoboká chata operated in the saddle beneath Veľký bok until its destruction by fascist forces during World War II.
The mountain forms part of the territories managed by KST, the Slovak Tourist Club, which maintains hiking trails and promotes outdoor activities.
The primary hiking route starts in Malužiná village, following blue markers to the saddle and yellow markers for the final ascent, covering 14 kilometers.
A small hunting lodge now occupies the foundation of the former mountain chalet, with a natural spring located just above the structure.
