Vinné Castle, Medieval castle ruin in Vinné, Slovakia
Vinné Castle is a medieval fortress ruin situated on a narrow rocky ridge with steep slopes on all sides. The remaining walls and structures form a compact settlement with residential areas and defensive elements.
The fortress was built in the second half of the 13th century and served as an important stronghold along trade routes for centuries. It was abandoned in the early 18th century and gradually demolished.
The remains display late Romanesque and early Gothic building styles, altered by different owners across centuries. You can still see parts of living quarters and defensive features that show how residents lived back then.
You can reach the ruins via marked hiking trails from Vinné village, with blue markings showing the way up the slope. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the approach is steep and crosses uneven terrain throughout.
Although the fortress now stands in ruins, the walls still reveal their original thickness and construction methods. The location was so strategically chosen that it still commands the landscape and remains visible from afar today.
