Straník

Straník is a mountain in the Kysucké Mountains reaching approximately 769 meters in elevation. The area offers views across the Žilina region and features multiple routes to reach the summit.

The mountain contains archaeological remains from the Bronze Age with fortifications dating back to around 1250 BC. These ancient structures show evidence of continuous settlement across many centuries.

The mountain served as a training ground that shaped early aviation history in Slovakia. The site remains connected to the sporting traditions that developed around its slopes.

Marked hiking trails start from Zástranie village and lead to the summit with clear signs. The site is reachable by public transportation from Žilina's main station, making the approach straightforward.

The summit has two separate launch sites positioned to take advantage of different wind directions. This setup made it a preferred location for hang glider and paraglide pilots.
