Straník, Mountain summit in Zástranie, Slovakia
Rising to 768.9 meters above sea level, Straník stands as a prominent peak within the Kysucké Mountains, offering views across the Žilina region.
The mountain site contains archaeological remains from the Bronze Age, including fortifications and artifacts that indicate continuous settlement from 1250 BC.
The Central Gliding School of Slovakia operated at Straník, where Štefan Pleško made history in 1934 as Slovakia's first certified glider pilot.
Marked hiking trails lead from Zástranie village to the summit, with public transportation available from Žilina's main station to the trailhead.
Two separate launch sites at the summit accommodate different wind directions, making Straník an active center for paragliding and hang gliding activities.
