Žibrica, Mountain summit in District of Nitra, Slovakia.
Žibrica is a mountain in the Nitra region standing at 617 meters and defined by dense forests and limestone rock faces. The peak forms part of the Tribeč range and can be reached through several marked hiking routes from nearby settlements.
Archaeological digs at the southeastern peak uncovered settlement remains spanning multiple periods, including the Lusatian, Hallstatt, and La Tène cultures. These findings show the slopes were inhabited from prehistoric times onward.
The mountain serves as a natural landmark in the Nitra region, connecting to ancient Slovak settlements and medieval defensive structures through marked hiking paths.
Marked trails from the nearby village of Podhorany lead to the summit, with the most direct route taking around two hours. The paths are well-signed but require sturdy footwear and moderate fitness.
The northern slopes display raw limestone cliffs that open up views across the Jelenec mountains and the central Tribeč peaks. On clear days, walkers at these exposed rock faces can see several mountain ranges stretching into the distance.
