Folkmarská skala, Mountain summit in District of Gelnica, Slovakia
Folkmarská skala is a mountain summit in the District of Gelnica rising to 915 meters, marked by steep rocky outcrops that push through surrounding mixed deciduous forests. The exposed rock faces create distinct visual landmarks that stand out across the wooded landscape.
During its industrial period, the mountain contained about a dozen mining tunnels where copper, antimony, and iron were extracted using horse-drawn equipment. This mining heritage remains visible in the landscape today.
The summit serves as a central point on an educational trail connecting Folkmarská and Murovaná peaks, teaching visitors about local geology and nature.
You can reach the summit via a yellow-marked trail starting from Kojšov village, with the climb taking roughly one and a half hours. Sturdy footwear is important as the path crosses rocky sections that can be slippery.
On clear days, the views from the summit extend across neighboring peaks like Kojšovská hoľa and Krompašský vrch all the way to the High Tatras mountains. This distant mountain range becomes visible as a striking natural backdrop.
