Far. kostol Nanebovzatia P. M.

The Parish Church of the Assumption is a Romanesque church with a double-tower facade and multiple altar spaces inside. The stone carvings on the Romanesque portal and throughout the interior display the careful craftsmanship of the medieval period.

This church was built in 1217 under the commission of Count Omodej from the Hunt-Poznan family and was originally connected to a Premonstratensian monastery. The monastery no longer stands, but the church has endured through the centuries.

The carved capitals inside display hunting scenes and plant motifs that reflect medieval Slovak artistic traditions. These decorative elements show how craftspeople of that time expressed their skills and imagination through stone.

The church remains an active Catholic parish, so visits work best when arranged in advance. This approach allows you to explore the interior without disrupting worship activities.

Remains of an 11th-century religious structure have been found beneath the church foundations. These discoveries reveal that this location held spiritual importance long before the current Romanesque building was constructed.
