Parížske močiare, Nature reserve in Nové Zámky District, Slovakia.
Parížske Swamp is a nature reserve in the Danube floodplain valley featuring extensive reed marshlands shaped by the Paríž River. The wetland covers approximately 184 hectares and displays the characteristic features of riverine marshes with dense reed growth throughout.
The site received its name from French engineers who conducted drainage projects in the region during earlier periods. The marshland was significantly larger before agricultural expansion reduced its original size.
The wetland serves as a vital refuge for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts who come to observe rare breeding species in their natural habitat. Walking through the reed beds reveals how the community values this space as a window into local wildlife.
Two natural walking trails provide access to explore the marshland, with the main starting point on Trstinova Street in Gbelce village. These paths allow visitors to move through the wetland while observing its plant and animal life.
The reserve hosts more than 500 insect species and 160 spider varieties within its wetland ecosystem. European pond turtles and Eurasian otters also make their home in the waters and margins of this protected area.
