Kiskő-oldali Cave

Kiskő-oldali Cave, Natural cave in Bajót, Hungary

Kiskő-oldali Cave is a limestone cave in Bajót with a large arched entrance opening in the rock face. It extends horizontally with two main passages connected by a small vertical shaft.

The cave was first documented in writing in 1925 when György Baits, a local official, named it. This naming represented one of the early formal efforts to record the region's natural features.

The cave takes its name from its position on the slope of Kiskő mountain, a detail visitors notice when approaching this rocky landmark. Archaeological work shows this location attracted people from the earliest times.

Visiting requires basic lighting since the interior is dark and passages wind through the cave. It is advisable to wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for uneven floors.

The cave formation resulted from thermal karst processes where carbon dioxide enrichment in groundwater caused the distinctive pattern of limestone dissolution. This geological process is uncommon and gives the cave its characteristic structure.
