Bajnai Öreg Hole

Bajnai Öreg Hole is a natural cave in the Gerecse region with a wide entrance that opens into expansive passages with varying ceiling heights. The underground corridors extend horizontally into the hillside, creating spaces that widen and narrow as you move deeper.

The cave contains evidence of human occupation from ancient times, with pottery fragments discovered during archaeological surveys indicating past activities. These finds suggest the site served as a shelter for people over extended periods.

The cave forms part of a network of natural formations in the Gerecse region, contributing to local geological research and educational initiatives.

You can reach the cave entrance by walking the marked trails from Bajna, starting near the village and hiking about 500 meters to the site. The paths are marked with green triangle symbols, and sturdy footwear is helpful for navigating the terrain.

The cave contains unusual geological features like spherical niches and chimney-like formations shaped by ancient thermal water activity. Bats make their home in these passages, taking shelter in the crevices and corners of the underground space.
