Bajóti Büdös Cave, Protected cave in Bajót, Hungary.
Bajóti Büdös Cave is a small cave near Bajót with an entrance measuring 1.3 meters wide and 1 meter high. From there, a corridor extends about 11 meters southward through sandstone formations.
The cave was first surveyed in 1937 and mapped for tourism near Kökényes hill. Its scientific documentation came later in the 1980s.
The cave takes its name from a winter phenomenon visible at its entrance: mist that rises from the opening. This natural display inspired local people to call it Büdös-lyuk, reflecting what travelers can witness during cold months.
Entry requires a special permit, as the cave has protected status. Visitors should know that access is restricted year-round to protect the bat populations living there.
The cave is home to seven different bat species, including the lesser horseshoe bat. This makes it an important habitat within Duna-Ipoly National Park.
