Blaise Diagne International Airport, International airport in Ndiass, Senegal
Blaise Diagne International Airport is the international airport in Ndiass, roughly 43 kilometers (27 miles) east of Dakar in Senegal. The passenger terminal spreads across multiple floors and includes separate zones for arrivals, departures, shops, and dining facilities.
Construction began in 2007 and concluded ten years later with the opening on December 7, 2017. Since then, this facility has replaced the older Léopold Sédar Senghor Airport, which stood closer to the capital but no longer offered sufficient capacity.
The airport carries the name of a politician who became the first black deputy elected to the French National Assembly in 1914. This reference to Senegalese representation in Paris appears in the terminal design, where local patterns and colors emphasize the country's identity.
The connection to central Dakar runs through the Train Express Regional railway as well as taxis and buses. The terminal typically opens several hours before the first departures and closes after the last flight, though international passengers should arrive earlier.
The runway extends 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) and permits operations by large long-haul aircraft. This allows direct connections to Europe, the Middle East, and other African regions without intermediate stops.
