Réserve naturelle de Popenguine, Nature reserve in M'bour Department, Senegal.
The reserve spans 1,009 hectares along the Petite-Côte region, featuring rocky coastlines and Sudano-Sahelian savanna with diverse wildlife habitats.
Established as a protected forest in 1936, the area became an official nature reserve on May 21, 1986, to rehabilitate lands affected by deforestation.
In 1988, a group of 129 local women formed an association to protect natural resources and manage conservation efforts within the reserve.
Visitors can access guided bird watching tours and stay at the Kër Cupaam camp, with entry fees ranging from 500 to 2,000 CFA francs.
The reserve contains World War II military structures, including bunkers and cannon positions that reflect its strategic coastal location.
