The concept developed in the 1960s and construction began in 2013. The project reflects a desire to present African cultures and history to the world.
The museum displays works by African artists and traditional objects from across the continent that visitors can encounter today. The exhibitions help people understand the diversity of Black African cultures.
The building opens Tuesday through Sunday and offers guided tours for visitors. Plan to spend several hours exploring the different exhibition levels.
The architecture draws inspiration from traditional round houses found in the Casamance region. This design choice blends modern construction with local building styles.
