Barrakunda Falls, Waterfall in Tambacounda, Senegal.

The Barrakunda Falls consist of a rocky ledge stretching 200 feet across the Gambia River, forming a natural barrier in eastern Senegal.

European traders and explorers since 1651 used the falls as a critical navigation point, marking the limit of their upstream river expeditions.

The falls hold deep connections to the former Kingdom of Wuli, where local communities established trading posts near the water's edge.

Visitors can access the falls by traveling 300 miles upstream from the Gambia River mouth, with optimal conditions during the rainy season.

The water level fluctuates significantly between seasons, transforming the falls from a powerful cascade to a series of exposed rock formations.
