Baba and Mai

Baba and Mai is an aluminum statue in central Paramaribo showing two figures representing a father and mother. The work displays carefully detailed traditional Indian clothing and was made from a material that holds up well in the tropical heat.

Artist Krishnapersad Khedoe created this memorial to honor Indian workers who contributed to Suriname's development. It was unveiled in 1994 as a moment of recognition for this community.
