Damascus International Airport, Primary international airport in Harran Al-Awamid, Syria.
Damascus International Airport is an international facility in Harran Al-Awamid near Damascus, Syria. The site includes two terminals with multiple gates, duty-free shops, and dining areas serving domestic and international travelers.
A French construction company built the airport in 1965 to replace the older military site at Mazzeh. Passenger numbers reached their highest point in 2010 with 5.5 million people passing through.
Announcements at the facility sound in Arabic, English, and French, reaching travelers from different countries. These three languages appear in all signage and spoken updates throughout the terminals.
Buses and taxis run regularly between the airport and downtown Damascus using a dedicated highway link. The journey takes around half an hour under normal road conditions.
Despite difficult conditions across the region, the facility maintains links to Sharjah, Baghdad, Kuwait City, and Cairo. Flight schedules shift often depending on circumstances and require patience from all travelers.
