Qalaat al-Madiq, Medieval fortress near Al-Suqaylabiyah, Syria
The fortress stands on the eastern bank of the Orontes River within the al-Ghab plain, featuring thick stone walls and defensive structures.
The citadel was constructed during the Zengid rule in the 12th century, overlooking the ancient ruins of the Hellenistic city of Apamea.
The structure represents a combination of Islamic military architecture and local building techniques used during the medieval period in Syria.
Visitors can reach the fortress by taking the road from Hama city, which lies approximately 25 kilometers to the southeast.
The fortress maintained its military importance through centuries, serving as a strategic point during the Syrian Civil War until 2019.
