Photharam is an administrative district in the northern part of Ratchaburi province, with the Mae Klong River running through its territory. The area contains several sub-districts and villages spread across different zones, each with its own local administration.
The district office relocated to its current location in 1952 after several earlier moves. A significant earlier transfer occurred in 1836 when the administration shifted to the eastern bank of the Mae Klong River.
The district contains nineteen sub-districts and 156 villages, each maintaining traditional Thai administrative structures and local governance systems.
