Walking Street, Red-light district in Pattaya, Thailand.
Walking Street is a red-light district in Pattaya that stretches along the coast for about one kilometer. The street is lined with neon lights, bars, clubs, and entertainment venues that stand side by side and remain open until the early morning hours.
In the 1960s, this area was still a simple road through a fishing village by the sea. The street developed into an entertainment district during the Vietnam War, when American soldiers used Pattaya as a rest destination.
The name refers to the pedestrian zone that closes to traffic each evening and transforms into a busy entertainment strip. Visitors encounter Thai go-go bars alongside international pubs, while small stages offer cabaret shows and live music.
The street closes to car traffic in the evening, so visitors can walk through comfortably on foot. Parking is located at the southern end near Bali Hai Pier, from where the strip is easily reached.
At the southern end lies Pattaya Pier, from which ferries depart to Koh Larn Island. Many visitors combine an evening here with a day trip to the beach on the island.
