Wat Phra Ram

Wat Phra Ram, Buddhist temple ruins in Pratu Chai, Thailand

Wat Phra Ram is a Buddhist temple ruin in Pratu Chai, Thailand, with several stone structures including towers and ceremonial buildings arranged around a central courtyard. The complex follows traditional architectural principles and displays remains of meditation halls and other religious spaces from the Ayutthaya period.

The temple was founded in 1369 on the order of a king and stood at the location where the king's father was cremated. This connection to the royal family shaped the site's significance over many centuries.

The temple displays classical Ayutthaya architecture with its characteristic towers and symmetrical layouts that express Buddhist cosmological beliefs in stone. Walking through the ruins, you notice how carefully these structures were arranged to reflect religious principles and spiritual harmony.

The site is accessible by tuk-tuk or bicycle from central Ayutthaya and is best explored during cooler morning or evening hours. Sturdy shoes are advisable since stone debris and uneven paths are scattered throughout the grounds.

The main tower rises over 40 meters high and once contained hidden chambers that stored Buddhist manuscripts and religious objects. These concealed spaces reveal how precious these texts and artworks were to the community.
