Constitutional Court of Thailand, Constitutional Court in Lak Si District, Bangkok, Thailand
The Constitutional Court brings together nine judges who examine whether laws align with the national constitution. Sessions take place in a modern building along Chaengwattana Road in the northern part of the capital.
The court began its work in October 1997 after a constitutional reform intended to expand democratic checks and balances. Since then it has reviewed laws and complaints against political actors across Thailand.
The court's architectural design combines modern legal functionality with elements reflecting Thailand's judicial traditions and constitutional principles.
The building stands within the Government Complex on Changwattana Road in Lak Si District, where several ministries and administrative offices are also located. Public hearings can be attended as long as security procedures are followed.
The nine judges are not elected by the government or parliament but appointed by a selection committee drawn from different legal institutions. This system aims to secure their independence when making constitutional rulings.
