Wat Mae Pang, Buddhist temple in Phrao district, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand
Wat Mae Pang is a Buddhist temple complex with structures built primarily from wood, arranged to serve different spiritual purposes. The site includes a viharn, meditation pavilion, and a hermit's residence called Rong Yang Giled positioned along route 1001.
The temple became known as the home of respected monk Luang Por Waen Sujinno, who resided here from 1962 until his death in 1985. His long presence transformed the site into an important center for spiritual practice in the region.
The mausoleum features a square structure with a pointed roof that houses the remains and personal items of a respected monk. Visitors can see objects and a wax figure that represent his life and spiritual practice.
The temple sits approximately 75 kilometers from Chiang Mai city and is accessible via route 1001. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and remove their shoes before entering any buildings on the grounds.
The meditation pavilion displays a collection of photographs documenting advanced meditation practices. These images offer a rare glimpse into decades of spiritual discipline that few visitors expect to find documented this way.
