Rama IX Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Bangkok, Thailand
Rama IX Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans across the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The structure stretches 781 meters in total length and features a central steel span supported by cables hanging from a tall tower.
The bridge was constructed between 1984 and 1987 by Japanese company Hitachi Zosen. The project marked an important period of infrastructure expansion that helped improve transportation connections across Bangkok.
The bridge connects the districts of Yan Nawa and Rat Burana, serving as a gathering point for local events and community celebrations throughout the year.
The bridge has six lanes for car traffic and separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists. It is easily accessible through multiple public transportation connections.
Steel construction techniques and engineering methods applied in this bridge established new standards for infrastructure development across Southeast Asia during the 1980s.
