Phra Pin-klao Bridge, River crossing in Rattanakosin Island, Thailand
Phra Pin-klao Bridge is a river crossing that spans the Chao Phraya and connects Rattanakosin Island to Thonburi district. The structure accommodates six lanes of traffic and includes a pedestrian walkway for those crossing on foot.
Construction started in August 1971 and was completed in September 1973. The opening by Prime Minister Thanom Kittikachorn marked an important milestone for traffic connection between the two riverbanks.
The bridge bears the name of Prince Pinklao, who held the position of vice-king of Siam from 1851 to 1866.
The bridge sits near the Grand Palace and maintains a minimum clearance of 11.5 meters for boats passing below. You can cross by car or walk using the designated pedestrian areas.
Building the bridge required demolishing three previous structures, including the Chalerm Sawan 58 Bridge and two pedestrian crossings. This removal shows how much the riverbanks changed when the new project took shape.
