Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Chaliang

Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Chaliang, Buddhist temple in Si Satchanalai, Thailand.

Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Chaliang is a Buddhist temple in Si Satchanalai with a central tower of laterite blocks and several buildings housing Buddha figures of different sizes. The grounds display the typical layout of a temple complex with religious structures arranged across the area.

The temple was founded in 1237 as Khmer control declined and Sukhothai power grew in the region. Between 1448 and 1488 it underwent significant restructuring under royal patronage.

The site displays Buddha figures in various poses that visitors can observe throughout the grounds today. These statues and their placement reflect the spiritual devotion that has centered on this location across generations.

The site is easy to reach and allows visitors to explore different areas on foot or with local transport options. It is helpful to wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for uneven ground in places.

Inside the main tower lies a hidden chamber accessible by a steep stairway on the eastern side. This chamber is believed to hold sacred relics that form the spiritual core of the site.
